How to Make a Cosplay Website (Part 1)

With all the social media accounts available these days, is it really worthwhile to make a website? In my opinion, yes. Social media accounts are great for attracting new followers and seeing others’ work, but ultimately the accounts do not belong to you. They are subject to the whims of the site management and fluctuate in popularity just like all trends do. Having your own site means you have complete creative control over the content shown and have a permanent (as long as you keep paying for the domain name) location where you can share your work.

Once you have decided to create a website, it is time for the planning stage. Browse as many cosplayer sites as you can. Keep a pen and paper handy and jot down what you like and don’t like about the sites. Look at the page and costume organization and think about how you would like to categorize your own work.

NOTE: This step is for reference gathering only. It is in very poor taste to directly copy another cosplayer’s site and logo. Not only is it rude, but it also takes away from your original credibility as a cosplayer.

After you have decided what you want your site to include, take your paper and sketch out a rough outline of what you want it to look like. All set? Stay tuned for Part 2 where we move onto the site building phase.
